“Dear UC Family,
We have some sad news to share with you today. Stu and I have decided to sell the The Uncommon Carrot Cafe.
In the last couple of months I have been hit with a series of health issues, the latest being some heart irregularities and fainting spells. You may or may not know that we also found out in February, rather unexpectedly, that we would be welcoming our third child this October.
It is because of what is going on with my health and our upcoming addition to our family that we have made the heartbreaking decision to sell. We love the cafe, our staff, you – our UC Family – and what we have created for the community and are so bummed to have to end our journey now (and right before the summer!!). Ultimately though, we have decided we need to put my health and our family first.
We will be open this week, offering some great discounts on grocery items and retail merchandise, and then will be closing our doors and focusing on finding a buyer for the business. Unfortunately with my health the way it is, I’m just not able to continue managing the business on a day-to-day basis.
For anyone that has any outstanding gift cards, gift certificates, free drinks etc, please come and use them up this week. We will be open normal hours with our final closing taking place Sunday at 4pm.
If you recently won a personalized limited edition UC Jar and monthly smoothie or juice through either the Irwin Family Auction or the Sooke Region Chamber Auction we will be in touch to work out an alternative prize given the circumstances. Feel free to reach out to us as well.
Thank you so much for all your support. You helped us bring our dream to reality and we will miss you all terribly.”

The Uncommon Carrot was a dedicated 100% gluten-free zone, completely safe for celiacs, their family and friends. The ‘UC’ offered juices and smoothies and a growing selection of gluten-free items – to eat in – or order to go. Wherever possible, the ‘UC’ provided vegan, dairy-free and nut-free options.
“More than just a smoothie and juice bar; The Uncommon Carrot was intended to be a safe haven for restricted eaters, a comfortable hang out for moms with kids, a resource and support network for everyone wanting to change their eating habits.”
