A labour of love by local resident Kerry Cavers, The Uncommon Carrot aims to become the local gluten-free, clean-eating meeting place, a destination for Victorians and a fueling point for tourists exploring the best West Coast!
Aiming to open early June in unit 2A at 6686 Sooke Road, the completely remodeled location tucked in behind Route 14 Restaurant that will first and always be a dedicated gluten-free zone, completely safe for celiacs, their family and friends!
“The “UC” will be a hub for conversation, laughter, learning and eating well on the go. Looking to eat clean? We’ll support you. Need a meet up spot? Come on in for a smoothie. Want gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan foods fast? We got you,” says Kerry.
“More than just a smoothie and juice bar; we will be a safe haven for restricted eaters, a comfortable hang out for moms with kids, a resource and support network for those wanting to change their eating habits.”
Delicious fresh smoothies and juices and the very best in locally-produced, gluten-free products to eat in or take away will be ever ready. A line up of savory soups and short orders will make The Uncommon Carrot the go-to place for breakfast, a light lunch or gorgeous, gluten-free thirst-quenchers!
In a collaboration with The Celiac Scene, The Uncommon Carrot will become the go-to place for gluten-free foods in Sooke. You’ll find a carefully curated selection of our local favourites and trusted allergen-free foods. Their “market” will include dry goods, fresh local organic produce, and their original Go Food line of frozen slow-cooker meals. No more driving into ‘town’ to get gluten-free staples – or yummy treats!
The Uncommon Carrot Needs You!
“We missed having something like this since moving here four years ago. So we decided to be the ones to bring it to Sooke. It’s been a long process though and almost didn’t happen a couple of times,” reflects Cavers on trying to find the right space and the almost year of planning. “We’ve created a fun little Kickstarter campaign so everyone can join in the process with us and make sure this happens! Clean, or healthy eating, can be hard. We could all use a little help!” says co-owner, Kerry Cavers.
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. Kickstarter is full of ambitious, innovative, and imaginative projects that are brought to life through the direct support of people like you! Let’s put our money where our mouths will be!
“Funds raised in excess of our goal will go towards a meal share program supporting the Sooke Food Bank and some equipment needed to expand our in-house food offering. Funding The Uncommon Carrot is a win, win, win for everyone but only happens if we meet our goal!” Contact Kerry
