Introducing Persian Grill House

Persian Grill House BuffetOn a tip from an enthusiastic Celiac Scene follower, I recently visited Persian Grill House at 110 Burnside Rd  East – at Harriet. The restaurant has a bright atmosphere, very much refreshed from its former iteration as a Chinese buffet.

I was warmly greeted by operator / owner Reza who spent considerable time explaining the nature of traditional, halal Persian offerings. Having operated a family restaurant in Tehran, he established Persian Grill House in December of 2023 on the foundation of the food enjoyed there, with Iranian, Arabic and Indian influences. Middle Eastern best captures it all. Scroll down for sample menus.

To say their offerings are protein rich is an understatement. Chicken, beef & lamb kababs form the restaurant’s foundation with complimenting vegetables and rice dishes, in generous portions. All food is made from scratch and with simple spices. Commercial salad dressings are used – confirmed by The Scene to contain no gluten (ie malt vinegars.) Even the Caesar salad dressing is celiac-safe.

  • NOTE: All food may contain nuts. Pistachio, almond and walnuts are used in kashk-e-badamjan, Shole zard, Halva, Baklava, Masto khiar and Persian ice cream.

Of note is their fabulous 18-dish Sunday Buffet! Very much a carnivore’s delight with modest vegetarian options. Items are well labeled and include the following:

  • Loubiya Polo – rice, green beans, onion, tomato paste
  • Mixed Rice – carrots, corn, peas, green beans, lima beans (veg)
  • Chicken Stew – chicken, unpitted plums, spices
