Nougat is a soft and sumptuous gluten-free treat whose origins date back to ancient Rome. Originally made with egg whites, honey and almonds, influences from the Orient (spices), Syria (Alep pistachios) and Greece (nuts) have resulted in the cosmopolitan, celiac-friendly candy we know and love today in Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC.
Based in Quebec, La Nougaterie uses black current, blueberry, candied orange, cranberry, chocolate and even lavender to create a nuanced gluten-free pleasure of the highest order, perfect for any occasion. (Scroll down for availability and Canadian Celiac Association review.)
Thanks to a very special family connection, it is possible for us to indulge in La Nougaterie, right here on Vancouver Island:
