Don’t Wait for the Flu to Come Knocking

Get busy before flu season begins! Actively and consciously boost your immune system. Provide your body with the tools to stop a cold in a few hours – than suffer for days or even weeks!

  1. Echinacea combined with apple cider vinegar for lymphatic drainage. (2 TBSP in a glass of water 3 x per day.)
  2. Black elderberry extract – use one without added sugar
  3. Vitamin C (1000 mg 5 x per day)
  4. Crushed garlic cloves
  5. Oil of oregano (4 drops in water 4 x per day)
  6. Zinc supplement (combine multivitamin or zinc capsules with food and drinking plenty of water to avoid the nausea sometimes associated with zinc.)

• Catching it early is the ticket.
• Go into high gear – hit the echinacea and oil of oregano.
• Cut out all dairy, grains, alcohol and sugar from your current diet

If despite all of your best efforts (flu germs can overwhelm even the healthiest immune systems), cuddle under the covers with a box of tissues and soothe yourself with plenty of John’s therapeutic elixir below. Bone broth is highly charged with minerals that can nurture an upset digestive system.

John’s Gluten-Free Chicken Broth


  • 2-4 organic chicken legs
  • 2 organic chicken backs and necks
  • 1 large onion, peel on
  • 5 cloves, poked into the onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 bunch parsley, herbs of your choice.
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 litres water


  • Simmer on low heat for 12 hours. A wood stove or a crockpot is ideal.
  • Cool and pour contents into a colander.
  • Take the meat off the bones for the soup, discard the onion and give your dog the veggies with the cartilage.:)
  • Skim off the fat and use it for frying.
  • Place the chicken stock in a large pot and add a selection of chopped fresh veggies like carrots, celery, red peppers, cauliflower and leeks.
  • I like to add a cup of broccoli florets five minutes before serving this meal.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
